I’m a little jetlagged. I’m just back from Asia, but I’m back on the mic and really excited to be here.
I had a fantastic trip that started out in Kuala Lumpur and then I went to Philippines, and for the first time ever I got to go to Baguio City. If you fly into Manila and you have some time on your hands, you can spend three hours in traffic to get out of Manila and then you can drive up this mountain and go to Baguio City, which is absolutely fantastic.
It’s like something out of a cartoon, it has little road switchbacks that go up this mountain to an elevation of about 5,000 feet, it’s very narrow in spots. You go back and forth across a river, it’s just totally beautiful with waterfalls. You get up to the top of this mountain and it has pine trees and golf courses and the clouds are coming in. You’re happy to be there because you thought you were going to die going up the mountain because of all of the crazy Filipino taxi drivers – you know who you are, I rode with you and I met you when I was there.
You don’t die, you make it to the top of the mountain. This time I was fortunate and I got to stay at the Baguio Country Club, which is a facility that dates back to about 1905. During WWII the Japanese military took it over and used it as officer’s recreation or some kind of officer’s quarters. Then when MacArthur came back in and kicked them, MacArthur stayed there.
Incredible food. The food in the Philippines is just awesome. No, on this trip I did not eat any balut and I did not eat any durian, although I have had both of those in the past. I actually enjoyed more than my fair share of steak tagalog. I also had some chicken and pork adobe that was just absolutely off the hook out of this world.
