Are you wondering if content is still king for SEO?  I mean, for while there, it looked like the only thing that was important was getting as many spammy back links as possible.  And judging by the kind of junk that is ranking in Google, things were looking bad for King Content.  But things are changing, and content is returning to power.  We discuss this phenomenon this week on the show.

King Content Reigns Again

I’ve been hanging out at the Rankings Institute for the last couple of weeks.  It’s the latest course from Andrew Hansen and his friend Alex Miller.  Alex is a real live SEO professional.  You can read my review of the Rankings Institute course here.  It’s a work in progress.

I’ve decided to take a single idea from each of the eight weeks of the Rankings Institute course and feature it on the podcast.  This week, I discuss the importance of content quality when ranking content.  I also talk about how to get that content ordered (outsourced) in the event that you don’t have time to write it.

My Buddy Leslie And His Wife

As you know, I always sneak some cool stuff after the end of the show.  Today, I share a short music clip from my friend Leslie Samuel from BecomeABlogger.com and his amazing wife.  This lady can sing.  You can see the full video here.

This week on the Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast we talk about my takeaway from week one of the Rankings Institute course and why content seems to still be king. All this and more on the Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast…

Mark on the Road…

It’s great to be back. I’m on the road, for those of you that follow me on Twitter and Facebook. I’m doing another Asia tour. Right now it’s 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning here and I’m looking out the window at the Taipei bus station and other parts of downtown Taipei. I love Taipei, it’s one of the great cities in the world.

Last night our host – I’m here visiting one of our factories – my engineering counterpart took me out to what he claims is one of the best places to get Peking Duck in all of Taipei. Apparently there are two really famous places, we went to one of them. I can’t even remember the name of it, I guess I should find that out and put it in the show notes.

It was great because the chef cooks the duck and then brings it out and shows the table, and then they take it back and they cut off the skin, which is golden and crispy, and they serve that in little slices, and then they serve the meat in little slices. Then they have this vegetable that goes with it that looks like a green onion, it’s like a mild green onion. You take all of this stuff in a special sauce, it’s like a moo shu sauce or a hoisin sauce, a brown sauce. You put all of that together inside of an undercooked flour tortilla, that’s what I think of it as, as a guy from Texas it’s a little tortilla. It’s like an American-served Chinese dish that I’m familiar with, like moo shu pork, only the Peking Duck was served this way. It was absolutely fantastic.

Of course, lots of Taiwan beer, lots of “Ganbei” which means “bottoms up” in Mandarin. So we had a really good time. I really enjoy Taipei and it’s really great to be here.

If you ever come to Taipei, one of the things you absolutely have to do is go to the tallest building in Taipei, which is called Taipei 101. It’s a 101-story building. What’s remarkable about it, to me from an engineering standpoint, is that it has a counterbalance in it.

One of the big things you have to worry about when you build a skyscraper is the skyscraper tumbling over and falling down. The wind blows these skyscrapers, that’s a well-understood problem, and one of the ways that you can counteract the forces of the wind and/or earthquakes is to have a giant counterbalance so when the building goes left the inertia from the big counterbalance essentially has a force to the right and it stabilizes the top of the building.

In Taipei 101 this thing is a giant very heavy ball, and you can go see this ball. You can go up to the top of Taipei 101 on the observation deck and you can see the ball, and you can actually see it moving as the building sways, it’s really cool. Highly recommend that you come to Taipei can check out Taipei 101, and get yourself some Peking Duck while you’re here. Good stuff.
