Some years in the past, I’ve spent time working on goals, only to put them aside weeks later. We get busy and forget all about them. Maintaining focus on your goals is key to achieving them. This is something I was reminded of recently when I was putting away the Christmas tree.

Well, it looks like Christmas is over. All the presents are gone and it’s time to put away the Christmas tree.
As a lot of you know, I’ve been working pretty hard on my 2016 goals this week. I’ve been involved in Michael Hyatt’s Best Year Ever course that he teaches. It’s really an excellent course and I’ve outlined eight major goals for 2016 that I’ll be pursuing. Several of those have to do with Late Night Internet Marketing, so you’ll be happy, it’s going to mean more content for you and better content and lots of good stuff.
I was starting to put away the tree tonight and when I do that I have this cool ornament container, I have a couple of these that I put my Christmas ornaments away in every year. My wife likes this container, it has individual compartments and you can neatly put away the ornaments inside the container.
It occurred to me that this container can be a little bit like the goal software that you may be using to record your goals, whether you’re doing it in Microsoft Word, or Evernote, or maybe you have some fancy goal solution that you use, or maybe you use pen and paper. You can put all of your goals into your tool, whatever that is, write them down in your notebook, maybe it’s your Freedom Journal that you got from John Lee Dumas, and you put it away.
You kind of get busy and you put these things away until next year and you don’t really think about them until it’s this time of year again. I think that’s a big problem that I’ve had in the past. It’s one of the reasons that I got involved with Michael Hyatt’s Best Year Ever course, because I need that top of mind reminder about my goals, I need that accountability to keep those things in focus all year long.
I suggest that you do the same, that you come up with a way so that in June or July when you’re worried about Summer vacation and the kids being out of school that you’re still working towards the goals that you said you were going to accomplish in late December and early January, this month right now in 2016. Don’t just put your goals away in some notebook somewhere and store them until you think next year it’s time to write some new goals for 2017 and then you pull them out and go, “Oh, wow, here’s a list of things that I didn’t do, that I forgot about. I put them away and I didn’t really look at them all year long.”
That’s my challenge to you. Find a way to keep yourself accountable for your goals. For me it’s a weekly review process that I’ll have, it’s accountability that I’ll have with my mastermind group, it’s additional accountability that I’ll have through the Best Year Ever program from Michael Hyatt. That’s what I’m going to be doing and I suggest that you do the same.
I’m going to help you as well, I’m going to be reminding you about your goals periodically throughout the year as a way for us to keep each other accountable to do these things and get these things done that we said we were going to do in January of 2016. Our goals should be that when we have this conversation again at the end of December 2016 that we are really excited about all of the amazing progress that we made throughout the year.
