MasonWorld Internet Marketing Podcast

In this episode, we look at some review site tips — specifically, we look at how you can get content for your review site.

We also talk about my trip to DC, my nephew Greyson, some cool articles about Twitter retweets, and much more.

Our 30th episode.  Woo hoo.  Still struggling to hit a weekly publishing schedule, but I will keep trying until I can make it happen.

And much more….

In This Show…

Special thanks to my very cool nephew Greyson for kicking off the show.  He build a rocking super computer and is working on learning how to program – all at the ripe old age of 11.  Wow!  Greyson wants to podcast, so I sent him to Cliff’s excellent free podcasting course.

Just got back from DC where I got an amazing tour from a blogger!!!  The guy (his name is Paul) was amazing.  Best tour ever anywhere of anything.  Check out his site at http://www.permanenttouristindc.com/ and be sure to take a tour from him next time you are in DC.

Some cool articles this week

Review Site Tips — Getting Content

Of course, if you are building a review site, you are going to need some content.  Here are some review site tips about how you can get that content.

  • Write some real product reviews. Make a list of products you plan to review, the key features you should be looking at and start writing.  Be sure to create real reviews that actually help people.
  • Write product comparisons. Consumers are always looking for help on making an appropriate product decision and comparisons are one way to help them make the decision. I always need stuff like this myself.  Make comparison tables.  Create categories of products (ex. smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) and put together comparison charts and other useful information.
  • Don’t forget to take pictures. While photos are rarely enough on their own, they can certainly add a wealth of information to a product review. Take and publish product photos readily.
  • Create screenshots of products used on your computer. Software makes great affiliate products.  Just like photos, you can also take a picture of your computer screen and share. You can do this with software, websites you want to demonstrate and more.
  • Take a video Use the Product Reviews features of the Amazon Associates program. This allows you to display review details from Amazon on your website. NOTE: This doesn’t include actually text from the review, but shows ratings and a number of reviews, so users can click through to see them.

The product that I mention in the podcast for Amazon is phpZon (affiliate link).

Review Site Tips, Dallas Meetup, and more

Big shout out to my nephew Greyson, he’s a super cool 11 year old kid. He just got finished building some kind of super computer. Instead of going down to Best Buy and just buying the best computer that they had, he did all the research that he needed to do to figure out what motherboard he wanted, which chip set, hyvee bridge and so forth, sandy bridge versus hyvee bridge and all this kind of stuff, he bought the motherboard and chip set and put it all together with a fast hard drive. He’s got a totally cool gaming system up and running now, which is really awesome. I’m really proud of him.

He was just here in Texas visiting and was kind enough to record a bumper for my podcast. We got to talking and he wants to start a technology podcast, so of course I sent him over to Cliff Ravenscraft at Podcasting 101 and we’ll see how he does. I’m going to try and help him out and hopefully he’ll get a chance to do that and build something as an 11 year old that maybe he can take with him for the rest of his life. I really enjoyed his visit from Connecticut.

I hope everybody is having a great summer. I just got back from the most amazing place in the world, I think, which is Washington DC. Of course, a lot of my listeners are from outside the United States, but you probably know that Washington DC. is the capitol of the United States and there’s a lot of amazing things there. My favorite is the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, the original documents are there and they’re sealed in a special glass container and you can go in and look at those. They’re held in very low lighting and the container is flooded with nitrogen or argon or some inert gas to keep the document from aging. You can’t take photographs in there. It’s really cool.

I took my 13 and 15 year old daughter to DC and just showed them what it’s all about, what the Capitol is about, what the monuments are about. We took an amazing tour from a guy who also is a DC tourism blogger up there. Shout out to that guy, he’s got a blog over at Permanent Tourist in DC. It was really just a fantastic trip. I got to spend time with my kids. Of course it takes a little time away from my internet business, so sorry this episode of the podcast is little behind schedule, but what a great trip that was.

It’s funny, the influence that food is having on our culture. Food television particularly, because one of the big highlights from the trip for one of my middle daughters, Pam, was that she wanted to go to this place called DC Cupcakes, which is in Georgetown. So we did the whole Georgetown experience. If you’ve never been to DC, Georgetown is one of those great places that you can go to and hang out and eat pizza. There’s a place there called Georgetown Cupcakes which is featured on this show on Food TV called DC Cupcakes. We got cupcakes from there and we had a blast.

Anyway, I’m back and I’ve got some stuff to talk to you about today. I hope you’re having a fantastic day. Let’s get right into it.
