Building an online business can be one of the loneliest things you ever do. You are working late at night while your family sleeps. Your friends and coworkers do not understand what you are doing or why. And when things go wrong — which they will — you often have nobody to talk to about it.
That is why building a support network is one of the most important things you can do for your business and your sanity.
Emotional Support Matters More Than You Think
At a minimum, you need people in your life who believe in what you are doing, even when they do not fully understand it. A spouse who asks how your project is going. A friend who listens when you vent about a failed product launch. A fellow entrepreneur who gets it because they are going through the same thing.
I have been podcasting since 2009, and one of the unexpected benefits has been the community of fellow creators and entrepreneurs I have connected with along the way. Those relationships have gotten me through periods where I wanted to quit. Having someone say “I have been there, keep going” is more powerful than any business strategy.
Building Your Network in 2026
The good news is that building a support network has never been more accessible. Here are practical ways to find your people:
- Online communities. Facebook groups, Discord servers, Slack channels, and Reddit communities exist for nearly every niche and business model. Find two or three where the conversation is genuine and the members are active.
- Masterminds. A small group of three to five entrepreneurs who meet regularly to share progress, challenges, and accountability. These can be free or paid, virtual or in person.
- Local meetups. Check Meetup.com or Eventbrite for entrepreneur and small business groups in your area. Sometimes the most valuable connections happen face to face over coffee.
- Conferences and events. Even one event per year can introduce you to people who become long-term allies in your business journey.
The Bottom Line
You do not have to build your business alone. In fact, trying to do it alone is one of the fastest paths to burnout. Invest time in building a network of people who support you emotionally and professionally. The stronger that network is, the more resilient you will be when the inevitable challenges come.
