In this episode, I finally catch up with The Affiliate Guy Matt McWilliams. Matt is a world-class affiliate marketer and an amazing guy.  What makes Matt unique is his experience as an affiliate marketer and as an affiliate manager. He has some amazing tips to help you elevate your affiliate marketing game.

Our daily activities have changed because of the pandemic — we now have new limitations of what we can do and where we can go. This could be something that can change the course of the business setup that will have a positive impact in the future. 

Most of the businesses are affected and are looking for recommendations on how to pivot. Affiliate marketing can be one of the ways. Affiliate marketing has been around and been amplified during these times but Matt also highlights that we “take advantage of the situation, don’t take advantage of the people.”

He refers to affiliate marketing as something like social media: it’s not just about how you connect with your audience, it’s about how they connect with each other and form a tribe. 

What are the key things that new affiliates can do to become a good affiliate? 

  • Study the outliers.
  • Focus on the promotion.
  • Treat it like it’s your own promotion.
  • You don’t teach time management all day long where you’re just talking about it all the time.
  •  Talk about how you have a weightless page. 
  •  Talk about membership sites.
  • Plan your promotional calendar, ask what happens. 
  • View selling as serving.
  • Fall in love with the idea to become a student of it.
  • Get on every other affiliate list that promotes something that you’re promoting.

In selling, we have the beginning people (the emotional buyers), the middle ones (the logical buyers) and the end buyers (purchases during deadlines). Here are ways to capture them:

  • Be consistent with your promotion.
  • Appeal on the emotional side of the buyer, logical side and towards the end, appeal on the fear side. (Fear of missing out)
  • Don’t be afraid to sell, trust the product.
