How is the Coronavirus impacting online business? It’s easy to live in fear of COVID-19 and the coming economic impact. But what if we make another choice?
In this episode, we discuss the impact of Coronavirus on internet business and we ask the question: “What does this crisis make possible?” Should we curl up into a ball and hide or fight back?
Show Notes
For the past few months, coronavirus has drastically taken over media platforms and has created a lot of change for everyone. Misleading news and topics have been spreading like the virus through social media like Facebook. How can something like this impact online businesses and entrepreneurs and e-commerce?
Each individual has their own standpoint about COVID-19. Some are just thinking that these are just some media hype, some would think that this is not as dangerous as the flu and some are thinking that it’s not going to affect all of us and what’s worse is, it spreads out easily with the use of a social media platform like Facebook. But do we really understand the real impact of this virus?
There are people who acknowledge the existence of the virus and how it’s gonna affect the human body but are too complacent and think that only the unfortunate few will experience the impact of this virus, but in reality, we all are affected by this. Regardless of age, we are all part of this.
Someone who is already infected and didn’t follow the recommendations of healthcare officials will unknowingly infect 10 other people. Then someone down the chain, another person that gets infected, infects someone who infects someone and the chain goes on and on. As a result, a lot of events are now canceled.
And so the question that a lot of us online entrepreneurs are wondering: What is what now? How is this going to affect all of us? It is very easy to operate from a position of fear but let’s talk about the many incredible encouraging points of view on this.
“When something happens, it’s important to acknowledge the thing, not to make it bigger than it is, but it’s also important to take that next step, which is to ask the question, ‘what does this make possible’ ”. –Cliff Ravenscraft
Mark Schaefer, a highly regarded public speaker, also believes this and shares this foundational advice that is going to pay you off tremendously in the aftermath of COVID 19 when the economy cranks back up:
- Use the resource that you have now that you never, ever seem to have: time. Work on your next speech, work on your next book, redo your website, build deeper relationships with clients and other colleagues, etc.
- Ask yourself: ‘what does this situation make possible that wouldn’t be possible otherwise?’ Create more content that’s helpful to people because there’s a possibility that right now, while people aren’t working, that they’ll be able to spend time listening to your content. There will be people that are deciding that this is the time they’re finally going to take that course they’ve been wanting to take.
Let us spread the word that would help people, let’s spread positivity and do what public health officials are asking — don’t be gripped by fear.
What can you do and how can you help in your online business? For the people that are trying to see what’s possible, how can you help by serving them well at even a higher level than you’ve ever served them before?
