Back in 2012, I put out a call to listeners in the Dallas area to see if anyone was interested in getting together in person. The response surprised me. Several people reached out, and we held our first meetup at The Londoner Pub in Allen, Texas on September 11, 2012. It was a small group, just a handful of people, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my podcasting career.

The Value of Getting in the Same Room

Building an internet business can be an isolating experience. You work late at night after your day job. Your family may not fully understand what you are doing. Your coworkers think you are a little eccentric for spending your evenings writing blog posts and recording podcasts. Finding other people who are on the same path is incredibly energizing.

That first meetup confirmed something I had suspected but never experienced firsthand: there is no substitute for sitting across a table from someone who shares your challenges and ambitions. The conversations you have in person go deeper and move faster than anything that happens in an online forum or comment section.

Why Meetups Matter Even More in 2026

In the years since that first gathering, the internet marketing landscape has become more competitive and more complex. AI tools, shifting algorithms, and an overwhelming number of platforms and strategies make it easy to feel lost and overwhelmed. That is exactly when human connection becomes most valuable.

Accountability. When you tell someone face-to-face that you are going to publish that course or launch that podcast, you are far more likely to follow through than when you make that promise to yourself in the dark at 11 PM.

Perspective. Other entrepreneurs can see problems and opportunities in your business that you cannot see yourself. A five-minute conversation over coffee can save you months of going in the wrong direction.

Motivation. Seeing someone else at your level or just a step ahead who is making progress is the most powerful motivator there is. It makes the goal feel achievable instead of theoretical.

Relationships. Some of the most valuable partnerships, collaborations, and friendships in my career started with casual in-person conversations. The business relationships that form over shared meals and drinks have a depth and durability that purely online connections rarely match.

How to Find or Start a Meetup

If you are looking for an internet marketing or entrepreneurship meetup in your area, check Meetup.com, Facebook Groups, and local coworking spaces. Many cities have active communities of online entrepreneurs who gather regularly.

If no meetup exists in your area, start one. You do not need a large group. Four or five people who are serious about building online businesses, meeting once a month at a coffee shop or pub, is enough to create something valuable. Post in relevant online communities, mention it on your social channels, and see who shows up.

The format does not need to be complicated. Show up, share what you are working on, ask for feedback, and help others with their challenges. That is it. The value comes from the consistency and the human connection, not from structured agendas or formal presentations.
