Josh Spaulding's New Report

Josh has a great new report called Rapid Niche Profits that he has just released that explains in detail how to build small sites that make small incomes.  The great thing about these sites is that they are easy to build, and occasionally the incomes are not small.  Josh was going to sell the report for $47, but decided to go ahead and give it away for free.   It's definitely worth the price of opting into Josh's excellent email list, so head on over and get yourself a copy. It will take you about 45 minutes to read the entire report, and it's worth every second of your time.

Using Hittail on The Corn Sheller Site

I give a brief update on the corn Sheller site, and I described the new tool that I'm using called  Hit tail is pretty cool. The tool will analyze your incoming search traffic keyword by keyword and identify juicy keywords that you should target in your posts. I try this on the corn Sheller site, but I have to admit that I haven't done a careful study of the tools of effectiveness. One limitation of the tool is that it can only find keywords that have been used to find your site at least once. Still, I think the tool is really neat, and I am using and paying for it myself, so I thought I would mention it here.

The Snoring Site is a “Failure”?

The snoring site has just simply not worked out the way I wanted it to. This week we show an amazing for visitors. Woo hoo. In this episode, we discuss one possible explanation for why the traffic has been so low.

Listener Question from Jeremy on building backlinks

Finally, we have an excellent question from listener Jerry from Minnesota on the topic of back links. Jeremy wants to know what sort of link building techniques still work today, because he has three niche websites that are underperforming in terms of traffic. I answered Jerry's question and let them know exactly what I think is working, and what things you should avoid.

Greetings from the Queen

I hope everybody is doing absolutely fantastic. We had a little fun with the queen there. No offense to my brothers on the other side of the pond. I really appreciate the queen taking the time to give us a shout out. I know she’s been really busy with Kate Middleton vacation photo thing, so it’s very cool for her to find the time to say hello.

Buzz Marketing and Taking Advantage of Trending News

Speaking of buzz content, there was a really excellent article by Lynn Terry the other day on For those of you that don’t know Lynn, she’s a really special lady. She has being doing internet marketing, particularly affiliate marketing, for a long time. She has been on the podcast before and she’s a great person. You find her over at

Her article was about this idea of link bait and taking advantage of buzz content. I’ll put a link to the article in the show notes ( Basically she argues that you can understand what the trends are, the current massive search traffic trends, by looking at Google Trends or Newspulse over at CNN, or understanding what’s being talked about on The View, looking at YouTube trends, or even what’s trending on Twitter.

You can get a good idea of hot keywords that you can target content towards. I've done this before, even on Years ago when I first getting started Google had an April Fools, they always do their April Fools thing, and I targeted some April Fools keywords around the Google change around midnight when it happened. They pulled their April Fool’s joke and I picked the right keywords and I got around 6,000 visitors overnight to what, at that time, was a very new blog.

So you can definitely make that sort of thing happen. She talks all about how to do that and how to get that buzz traffic. The trick is what do you do with that traffic?

A lot of times the traffic is not worth much to you because it’s not a good market to message match for you. That means that people were really looking for nude photos of Kate Middleton and they ended up on an internet marketing blog. In most cases that’s not going to help you too much. But, if you’re clever you can figure out some ways to take advantage of that.

My general advice is that if you’re able to capture buzz that is somehow related to your blog or something that is normal for your audience, you want to go ahead and have an offer that’s normal for you, some kind of conversion strategy there. Whether it’s converting to your opt-in or converting directly to an offer. If you don’t and you just want to try and take advantage of the traffic, sometimes Adsense will work.
