Back in 2009, Google was offering $250 in free AdWords credits to new accounts. That specific promotion is long gone, but Google continues to offer ad credits to new advertisers regularly, and knowing how to find and use these credits can give you a low-risk way to test paid advertising for your online business.
Where to Find Google Ads Credits in 2026
Google routinely offers promotional credits to new Google Ads accounts. The amounts vary, but they typically range from $100 to $600 in ad spend after you meet a minimum spending threshold. Here is where to look for current offers.
First, check the Google Ads homepage directly. Google frequently displays current promotional offers when you start the account creation process. The terms change regularly, but there is almost always some form of new-account credit available.
Second, look for offers bundled with other Google products. Google Workspace, Google Cloud, and various Google partner programs often include Google Ads credits as part of their onboarding packages.
Third, check with your web hosting provider or domain registrar. Many hosting companies like Bluehost, SiteGround, and others include Google Ads credits as part of their hosting packages. These credits are provided by Google through partnership programs and are legitimate.
How to Actually Use Ad Credits Wisely
Getting free ad credits is the easy part. Using them effectively is where most beginners go wrong. Here is how to make the most of any promotional credits you receive.
Do not use credits to drive traffic to your homepage. Instead, send traffic to a specific landing page with a clear call to action, whether that is joining your email list, purchasing a product, or downloading a resource. You want to be able to measure exactly what your ad spend produced.
Start with a small daily budget and specific, long-tail keywords. Broad keywords in competitive niches will burn through your credits fast with little to show for it. Targeting specific phrases with clear commercial intent gives you better data and better results.
Track everything. Set up conversion tracking before you spend a single dollar. If you cannot measure the results, you cannot learn from the experiment. Google Ads conversion tracking is straightforward to set up, and your email marketing platform can usually tell you which subscribers came from paid ads.
Should You Use Paid Ads at All?
I have always been primarily an organic traffic guy. I prefer building content that ranks in search and sends free traffic indefinitely over paying for every click. But paid advertising has its place, especially for testing. If you have a new product or landing page, running a small Google Ads campaign can give you traffic and data within hours rather than the weeks or months it takes to build organic rankings.
Free ad credits lower the risk of that testing to nearly zero. If Google is offering credits, take advantage of them. Just go in with a plan, track your results, and treat it as a learning experience rather than a shortcut to revenue.

Thanks Mark – I set my account up today – finally.
Hey Mark, thanks for the tip. I just signed up, too.
@Kent
How long did it take for you to get the promotional code? I didn’t create my campaign until after I entered other billing information, so I’m wondering if I screwed things up by going out of sequence.
Hey Mark – sorry I missed your question. I stopped before entering billing info. Let me go back and see if I do get a promo. code with the billing info. It did appear confusing.
Ok Mark (Sierra) – I still have received no promo. code and trying to contact Google adwords appears impossible. Their faq’s are very circuitous – and I don’t see a solution there….
Sorry you guys are having trouble. This sounds so easy from the Google web page.
@Kent
Thanks for investigating! Still nothing on my end, but I sent Google two inquiries into the matter. I paused my campaigns for now — boy, it doesn’t take long for those suckers to rack up a charge, but then again, I’m rather tight with my money. 🙂
Yes, Mark, we are having trouble…i created a campaign, but still to receive their mailer even for a brand new account..some thing fishy in the ad
I read at warrior forums that you must already have a promotional code for you to get the $250 when you create a new account…
Ruby — looks like you are right. You apparently need a coupon that came through snail mail.
Bummer. Thanks for the heads up.
ok- thanks for the info. Ruby. Good thing I didn’t kick off my mail order Cialus campaign just yet.
I was so excited about this. I signed up, waited for an email….nothing. checked into it, realized you need the promo code first. i wonder if they are sending out any promo codes to new accounts or how they determine who gets a promo code.
Bummed but hopeful
Wow, I wish I’d seen this last month Mark. Just one one reason to subscribe to your RSS! Thanks
Ohh 🙁 I missed this promo :-s
Adwords is really great for promoting your website and also affiliate links. i have just passed the Google Adwords Professional exam today and i am very happy.
I have tried to apply this coupon, but it seems not to work if there is no money at your balance yet. What does it matter? Why does this coupon not work for me? Any suggestions?
I have been using Adwords for the last 2 years and i can only say that it increased my online sales by about 20%. The pay per click cost of Adwords is even cheaper than Adbrite. I love Adwords.
Adwords is really good for promoting a product that you want to sell online. It is very important that you geoatarget your intended audience so as to avoid wasting your advertising funds.
I set up my Adwords account about 4 weeks ago and never received any coupon at all.
For a newbie like me a free coupon would have been very helpful, just to try it out at least.
But now I’m not sure if I will take the risk of losing money without getting a chance to try it for free at first.
Adwords is a really great tool for promoting your website, forum or affiliate link. the ppc cost of adwords is even cheaper than Friendster or Facebook. before, i used to advertise on facebook but the ROI is so low. Adwords gives me a much better ROI compared to Facebook ads.
Hello,
I own a news blog from Serbia,Europe, can i have this free coupon so i can promote my website.
Thank.
