If you are just starting out in your business, you need to make careful choices about the tools you are using as some of these are not cheap. You also must make sure they are the right one because time is valuable, you don’t want to get bogged down in all these tools.

So, what are the tools that you need, how do they compare in terms of features, what are they trying to accomplish and how do they work together?

ConvertKit

We spoke about the importance of email lists in the last episode and that you need this to have an ongoing conversation with your customers.

ConvertKit has the technology to manage your email list and the delivery of your content to those subscribers. One of this is through an autoresponder, wherein people who subscribed will automatically get content in the sequence you have set it up with. Example, if you have lined up 100 emails and someone signs up, the autoresponder will be forwarding Email 1 on the schedule you determined it to go out and then Email 2 on the next, and so on. It will drip out content to them in the order you prescribed it to.

There are many sophisticated features inside of ConvertKit that you can take advantage of, including ‘tags’. These are like virtual sticky notes that you put on someone’s email that tells you what they are interested in a certain thing or can be used in categorizing them. An example is asking your subscribers if they are a beginner or an advanced marketer. If they click on ‘advanced’, a tag will be placed in their email address and you can filter the content that you will be sending their way to only the ones for intermediate folks.

Leadpages

Landing pages are important because in order to get someone on your email list, you need to convert them from a lead to a subscriber. A fantastic landing page design, a fancy sign up button – these are some basics which can help with conversion. Before you worry about deliverability, tagging and sequencing messages, work on your web page design first.

Leadpages was specifically designed to make it easy for people who didn’t know how to design web pages to just drag, drop, click and make beautiful landing pages. They have pre-made landing pages which can be integrated with your email autoresponder. In this case, you will need two tools — a landing page generator and an autoresponder.

While you can certainly design a simple funnel with tools like Leadpages and ConvertKit, sometimes you would want to you create something considerably more sophisticated with upsells, one-time offers, cart bumps, etc. and Leadpages is not designed to handle all that — it’s not really designed specifically with funnel marketing in mind.

ClickFunnels

Along came ClickFunnels, which made one product that makes funnels so dead simple easy to use. They have added higher tier level autoresponders into it and inside the tool, you can literally build a legitimate internet business with without WordPress or an autoresponder. You could just buy ClickFunnels and build out a website a delivery system for content and an email autoresponder.

If you can only get one thing in the world after you have hosting for your WordPress site, the one thing in the world that you must have is an email autoresponder. And if budget is tight, I would get ConvertKit. While it’s not free, it starts off at a very affordable level and grows as your subscribers grow. After this, I would get ClickFunnels second.
