I know this sounds funny coming from the Late Night Internet Marketing guy. But after years of building businesses in the margins, I have come to believe that starting your day early is one of the most powerful things you can do for your productivity — especially if you are running a side business.
The “I Don't Have Time” Excuse
I hear this constantly from aspiring entrepreneurs: “I do not have time for a side business.” And I get it. Between a full-time job, family obligations, and the basic maintenance of being a human, it can feel like there are zero hours left in the day.
But here is the thing: you do not find time. You make it. And the easiest place to make it is in the morning, before the rest of the world starts demanding your attention.
How to Become a Morning Worker
You cannot go from waking up at 7:30 to waking up at 5:00 overnight. Your body will rebel and you will quit after three days. Instead, phase it in gradually:
- Go to sleep when you are tired. Do not force a bedtime. Your body will naturally adjust as you start waking up earlier.
- Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier each day. That is it. Just 15 minutes. After a week, you are waking up almost two hours earlier than when you started.
- Keep going until you hit your target. For most people, 5:30 or 6:00 AM is the sweet spot. Early enough to get meaningful work done before the day starts, not so early that you are a zombie.
The Morning Advantage
The reason mornings are so powerful is not just about having more hours. It is about the quality of those hours. In the early morning, nobody is emailing you. Nobody is texting you. Social media is quiet. Your willpower is full. Your mind is fresh. The distractions that eat your evenings alive simply do not exist at 5:30 AM.
Get up with a definite list of tasks you planned the night before. Work that list with focus and intention. You will accomplish more before 8 AM than most people do all day. I have seen it happen hundreds of times, including in my own life.
Whether you are a night owl or an early bird, the principle is the same: carve out protected time for your business when the world is not competing for your attention. For many people, that means the early morning. Try it for two weeks and see what happens.
