Getting Serious and Going Weekly
Hey there. It’s Mark Mason and I’m back on the mic. I’m very excited, very pumped up. I’ve been doing a lot of podcast related stuff and I’ve got a lot of things to talk to you about today.
How cool was that bumper from Jason Van Orden from Internet Business Mastery? It’s especially cool because less than 24 hours ago Jason had his first child, a beautiful baby girl, 7 pounds 5 ounces. I don’t think they’ve settled on a name yet, I’m not sure. I’ve got to check on Facebook. I think this is the first international podcast related announcement of the birth, so we’re really pumped to have the scoop on that here in podcast land.
I’ve been away from the mic again, you know how these things go. Best laid plans of mice and men. Around the first part of the year here I started making some goals for myself and for the MasonWorld.com brand and the business. If you follow the blog over at MasonWorld.com I had a long post at the beginning of the year about all the things that I was going to accomplish in 2012, and really about how disappointed I was in 2011 with what I was able to accomplish compared to what I wanted to accomplish.
I started thinking about what the MasonWorld.com brand is really about, what I want it to be about. I started thinking about some of the things that Pat Flynn has been talking about lately with regard to being everywhere, some of the things that I’ve been talking about with regard to passion and other things. And I just got really fired up about all the things that I want to be able to do in 2012 around the MasonWorld.com brand.
I decided what the brand is really about, what I really get excited about and what I work on the most in my internet business really all is around content based affiliate marketing. Really what I like to do is talk about affiliate marketing, I like to do affiliate marketing, and I like to teach it. So what MasonWorld.com ought to be is a place to talk about affiliate marketing, about content based affiliate marketing, and the ways I know that I can help people do that successfully.
I also realized that the podcast is the perfect forum for that. In order to focus on the podcast I started doing some research. I did a little informal survey on Twitter about how often people would like to hear the podcast and they said weekly. Whenever I don’t do the podcast I get a lot of feedback, “Hey, when is the next episode coming? We want to hear the next episode.”
So I know there is demand for the podcast and I really want to build the brand that way. To be quite frank with you, I also know the power of podcasting. The internet marketers that I know that have been wildly successful, Jay and Sterling, Pat Flynn, they’ll all tell you enormous amounts of traffic come from podcasting, especially if you do it well and with integrity and you work hard at it.
So I really want to invest in this podcast medium. I’m sort of throwing down the gauntlet now, I’m making an investment in the podcast activity both in terms of taking the show to a weekly format, and I intend it to be considerably shorter. In the previous 14 episodes the podcast has generally been about an hour and the original intent was for the podcast to go for approximately every two weeks. Well, in 2011 I ended up doing three total podcasts. I actually had to admit that earlier today to somebody today and I thought, “That’s just terrible.” So I definitely want to try and drive the show to something that looks more like weekly.
LOVE IT MARK! Congrats on the commitment to making this all it can be! I love that you have a jingle! Also cool to have that bumper from Jason!
@Cliff Ravenscraft Thanks man. Looking forward to working with you on this podcast. Listeners are going to love the interview with you next week (may have to split it into two parts). Thanks for dropping by!
I’m still listening to this and I TOTALLY agree with you about the transparency issue! Love your thought of using another name and explain why!
@Cliff Ravenscraft I think most people are very understanding when you tell them what you are trying to do and why you are trying to do it. If you try to trick people (and they find out about it), they tend to get really angry,
@masonworld Couldn’t agree more.
Mark! Congrats on taking it weekly! Nicely done 🙂 I can’t wait to listen. Crazy thing but I started listening to your show way back when you started. I got sucked in when I listened right after you got your Libsyn account (I was prepping the apps). I ended up subscribing 🙂
@YoGeek Wow — that makes you among the very first. Thanks for hangin’ in!
Hey Mark, Good to see you are going to get serious! I’ve enjoyed listening to your initial podcasts and was missing them, so it will be good to add them to my iPod again. Between you, Pat Flynn and Sterling and Jay I definitely get a great fix of information.Also looking forward to part of your interview with Cliff.
