In this episode, we talk about the importance of dedicating yourself to be a lifetime learner – what it means, how to do it and what you need to watch out for.
Show Notes
Over the pandemic, I fell out of one of my most critical habits: listening to podcasts. I listened to podcasts that would allow me to grow through self development, to content that had me learning and moving either myself or my business forward.
I didn’t realize that I started to taper off from that learning and once I did, my mind started focusing on other things that weren’t related to my business.
A side hustler must not go long periods of time without thinking about their business. When you feed information to your subconscious mind, your subconscious mind will prompt you and help you solve problems and get things done. Because of this, it’s critical for entrepreneurs to be taking in a steady stream of content.
So what are the habits, traits, or characteristics that we can have that will make us more likely to be successful lifetime learners?
- Lifetime learners read daily – this can be in the form of podcasts,or audio books.
- Lifetime learners take courses – they have a passionate drive towards progress especially when they need to learn something new to move their business forward.
- Lifetime learners set SMART goals – Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound goals.
- Lifetime learners embrace change – they are not afraid to put their learning into action.
- Lifetime learners are not afraid to fail.
One caution though is to not get in the weeds and spend a lot of time learning about things that you don’t need to know right now. Employ a technique called just-in-time learning. Select things to learn about that are relevant to what you’re doing now, not those that are far, far off in the future, as you will just distract yourself if you do so.
Being a lifetime learner is key to being a successful entrepreneur. It can help you in your entrepreneurial journey, it can help you focus, it can help you stay motivated, it can help move you forward.
